How to Make Home Insemination Successful: 4 Things to Do

So, you’ve decided you’re going to tackle your infertility diagnosis head-on in the privacy of your own home. You’ve done your research and know that PherDal’s intravaginal insemination (IVI) kit is the absolute best (and safest) at-home insemination tool you can get, with its patented 100% sterility guarantee and recent FDA clearance, and it arrived in the mail today.

Everything thus far in your journey to have a baby has brought you to this moment, and you’re finally ready to take the plunge—but is it really this simple? How can you make the most of this opportunity?

If you’re wondering how to make home insemination successful, we designed the PherDal kit to be extremely simple and safe to use, and because of the high standards we apply, everything in that box will give you the best shot possible. However, there are a few details you need to know about using an IVI kit to get the most out of it.

Here are four things you can do to maximize the odds that your PherDal experience is a fertile one!

1. Remember to Keep the Process Sterile

As ironic as it sounds, sterility is one of the most important keys for a successful insemination. While up to 200 million sperm can be released to fertilize an egg in a single ejaculation, only a few will make it through the obstacle course your body has set up for them.

The female microbiome always experiences some natural fluctuations, and depending on things like stress and other factors, it can become unbalanced. Ovulation is one of those moments, as your body is flooded with hormones that release an egg. The last thing you want from your IVI kit is to introduce an X factor into that delicate balance. The needleless syringe does go into your body, and it needs to have a completely neutral effect on your physiology.

After all, your ovulation window is very brief, and that’s a crucial time when everything needs to be as stable as possible in there. Your best chance is to use an IVI kit on the three consecutive days when you are most likely to be ovulating. If your kit isn’t 100% clean and sterile, who knows what manufacturing chemicals, factory dust, or worse could be introduced that minimize its effectiveness?

2. Consider Environment and Timing

Beyond protecting your body with a clean kit, you’ll want to do the insemination in a comfortable room that’s well-lit and familiar to you, like your bedroom (yes, you get to keep conception in the bedroom with an at-home insemination kit!). This space should give you the freedom to focus and concentrate on the task at hand, and be relatively free of distractions.

Of course, while deciding where you’re using your kit can be done on the day, when to use it can take a little more preparation. Ovulation occurs once a month between your menstrual periods, and the ovulation window only lasts about three days since an egg must be fertilized within 12-24 hours of being released.

This is not just the most optimal time to use your IVI kit—it’s the only time you can get pregnant. By consistently tracking your ovulation with a science-backed method, you’ll have a much better understanding of when you’re at your most fertile and ready for PherDal!

3. Fresh vs. Frozen Sperm

For those worried about how to make home insemination successful, this is a biggie. There are two kinds of sperm that can be used with an intravaginal insemination kit:

  • Fresh sperm from a donor—and only within an hour of collection.
  • Sperm that’s been professionally frozen by a lab.

Ideally, you’ll be able to get your sperm straight from your partner or donor, and you’ll probably want them to be in the same house to make sure everything is as fresh as possible. It can go right into the 100% sterile collection cup and straight to you. Otherwise, make sure it’s no more than one hour old.

If you’re using sperm from a sperm bank, it will arrive frozen and you’ll need to let it thaw completely in one of our sterile collection cups. There are two reasons for this, and the one that isn’t sending shivers up your… spine… is that you won’t be able to draw frozen sperm into a needleless syringe. After it’s thawed, it should be used within an hour.

Once you’ve got your sample, all you have to do is fill the needleless syringe directly from the cup, insert it like a tampon, and press down on the plunger to deposit the sperm at the entrance of the cervix. Presto! You’re done!

4. Use the PherDal IVI Kit

My last piece of advice is to utilize the PherDal IVI kit, as it’s the highest quality insemination kit available and will boost your odds of getting pregnant naturally at home. Our kits are manufactured with medical-grade plastic and are FDA-cleared and sterilized to ensure they never interfere with your natural chemistry. Also, our needleless syringes are designed to match your body inside and out so you have an experience that’s both comfortable and delivers the best chance of getting pregnant.

IVI kits put the power to take control of your own fertility back in your hands, and we want to equip you with everything you need—from ovulation tracking to high quality products—to feel confident in that process.

And believe me, you’re not alone in this journey: I created PherDal after my partner and I got a $10,000 suggestion from our doctor for our unexplained infertility. We decided to use our backgrounds in biology and mechanical engineering to design a better option for people everywhere.
